Text Box: Sr. made the finals. Paul Houston hitched his wagon to the wrong star. Toby had his banner removed.
Text Box: Gene Bergeaux and Rick Minier both left the lily. There were too many MMs to list them all. Randy beat Dave. Dale beat Bill. Paul beat Pete. Some pairs required manual scorekeeping Text Box: with old fashioned pencil and paper and we got some funny looks from birthday party attendees because they had never seen a score sheet before. 70 years young John Austin Text Box: Jim’s Notes
Text Box: On a shot where speed and “straightness” seemed to be an advantage, Mark Williams covered more boards than anyone and turned a close tournament into a route with monster games late in the finals. Joe Lecroy bowled well enough to win most and came in 2nd. Tommy Crouch showed up with his “old game” and bowled great to get 3rd. Rick Minier finished 4th and Gary James rounded out the top 5.
There were more than the normal distractions in Pasadena as we had trouble with the machines, the scorers, the ball lifts and just about everything else in the center. They had made some improvements there Text Box: over the last few months, but still have a ways to go. The situation could have been disastrous with most any other group of bowlers we can think of. But, almost to a man, our SASBA group handled it pretty well and made things much easier on tournament staff than it could have been. I guess to get as old as we have, we have to have been through similar circumstances before. Bowlers held complaints to a minimum and many offered support and sympathized with our plight. A big “high five” to all SASBA members.
Newbie Dean Jones made his first finals. It won’t be his last and I see SASBA titles in his future.
Text Box: Our next tournament is at Jerry Beaver’s Holiday Lanes in Oklahoma City. Following that, we will be at Metro Bowl in Baton Rouge. We’re looking for big turnouts at both centers. Gordon Stuntz, Charles Johnson and Mark Estes have prepared a SASBA yearbook and it is being printed. We will have a PDF on the website for those who want to download it at home or you can pick up a hard copy at tournament sites...we hope by the Baton Rougetournament.
